My name is Avis Saunders, the founder and owner of Mitten Maven Studio!
I salon a little differently. I believe in creating a warm and inclusive environment where I always want you to feel listened to, educated, and taken care of, from the moment you enter the door.
I am committed to bettering myself, my craft, and our planet through the continual pursuit of education and use of environmentally conscious products.
I believe in helping you to feel like your best self through kindness, generosity, and care towards you and your hair.
I have been in the industry for 13 years and I specialize in lived-in color, textured cuts, bridal makeup, extensions, and vintage inspired styles.

My Story
My passion for the beauty industry has been a lifelong journey. From as early as I can remember, I found joy in experimenting with my appearance whether that was perfecting my makeup, playing with hair, or painting nails. It was clear to me that my heart was set on a path of becoming a beauty professional .
After graduating high school, I initially explored interior design, as I've always had a deep appreciation for art and architecture. However, college didn't resonate with me, and I knew that it was time to give Cosmetology school a try. In 2009, I made the decision to attend the prestigious Aveda Institute in Ann Arbor, and it was a life-changing experience.
Upon graduating I embraced the opportunity to assist talented stylists at a high volume salon,for a handful of years, where I honed my skills and furthered my passion for hair color and makeup artistry.
With dedication and enthusiasm, I sought to expand my expertise in makeup. I took extensive classes and attended bridal makeup boot-camps. These experiences opened doors to the exciting world of student films, commercials, and movies during Michigan's booming film industry period.
As the film incentives changed, so did my journey. I embraced new opportunities and ventured into returning to work behind the chair full time in Detroit, Michigan. After several years of building a community and clientele of my own I decided to open up a salon suite in January 2020.
Now, as the heart and soul of Mitten Maven Studio, I pour my heart into providing exceptional hairstyling and makeup services to my clients. My website showcases my evolution in this industry, with photographs from various stages of my life, reflecting my passion and dedication to beauty.
